Choosing Your Criminal Defense Lawyer

By Rose

Nobody wants to be on the other side of the law. Most of us just want to live quiet lives and avoid running into any sort of trouble with any authority, but sometimes, we end up dealing with serious allegations that can have very serious consequences for us. If you have criminal charges pressed against you, you need to be sure to defend yourself and stand your ground. Depending on the degree of the crime, you can end up with the charges on your permanent record, and in worst-case scenarios, in jail. Regardless of whether or not you committed the crime, you want to be sure to have a good legal defense team on your side because your lawyer will be the intermediary between you and the court. You can look through a list of Boston’s top criminal defense law firms and try to narrow down options from there.

Hiring a Criminal Defense Lawyer

  • A good criminal defense lawyer must have experience. They need to have a couple of years under their belts, and they should also have experience dealing with your type of cases. While they cannot reveal previous cases they have handled, they can still let you know whether or not they have represented clients that had similar charges.
  • A good lawyer should have a couple of wins under their belt. If they insist that they win every case they represent, then they are lying, but if they give you an honest answer and they do have a decent success rate, then they are a good potential option.
  • Your lawyer needs to be someone that you can trust. If you do not feel comfortable disclosing all the details of your case, then you are only going to suffer. So, if you don’t feel comfortable with a lawyer, then they are probably not the right fit for you and you should continue looking.
